This has been perhaps the best badminton year De La Salle has had in recent years. Every year we improve, our numbers increase and players become more exceptional. And with this are the outstanding successes that the U-14 A and U-16 A teams have made. The U-14 A’s reached the Dublin finals, while the U-16 A’s came through to both the Dublin and Leinster Finals and won. Other teams did not fare as well, but they didn’t disappoint. St. La Salle’s Day was honoured in style in De La Salle College Churchtown last Friday 11th May. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Dermot Nestor of the Good Shepherd Parish in Churchtown for the assembled pupils and staff of the College. Invited guests included Br. Damien Kellegher FSC (Assistant Visitor), Bro. Partick Collier FSC (Education Officer) and Bro. Patrick Byrne FSC (Retired Headmaster of De La Salle Preparatory School in Churchtown), former Principals Tom Smyth and Tim Sheehan and several members of the retired teaching staff. Past Pupils Diarmuid Coogan, Jim Nugent and Ciaran Faughnan of the Class of 1984 were also in attendance, in memory of their classmate the late Jim Stynes who died of Cancer so tragically in Australia earlier this year. Our annual sports day took place on Friday the 4th of May on the school rugby pitches. Whilst the weather was not as sunny as it usually is for annual sports day, the rain did hold off.
The day was a huge success with the boys competing in various events including: Broad jump, basketball throw, penalty shootout, long puck, 100 metres, 1500 metres. The day was as usual coordinated by Mr Dick Ryan, and as usual he produced a very enjoyable day for all.
