March Letter to Parents

Dear Parent(s),

The 6th Year and 3rd Year students have just finished their 'Mock' Examinations and will be getting their results over the coming days. There is much to be gained from a careful analysis of the corrected papers. Students should now prioritise the work that is needed in each subject area and plan to study and revise their work accordingly. After-school study continues and if not already doing so, your son should consider availing of this option. Our experience has been that those who engage in after school study perform to their potential in the State Examinations.

The 3rd Year students will shortly be formally entering for the Junior Certificate Examination. They will be required to indicate which subjects and the levels [Higher or Ordinary] they will be sitting in each subject. Once they have done this, they will not be able to change their mind in June. Therefore, they should seek the advice of their subject teachers and discuss this matter with you. In this regard, pay particular attention to any comments made by the teachers in the Mock Examination Reports.

I would like to ask parents to stress the importance of their son's respecting the property and rights of other students. Over recent weeks, the issue of lack of respect for property, for other students and for the teachers has been a matter of concern. This lack of respect is not something you would stand for at home. It is not something that we want in De La Salle College Churchtown. I ask for your assistance and co-operation in resolving this matter. Also:

  • The Parents Association ran a very successful Coffee Morning and Cake Sale in the College in aid of the Hospice in Harold's Cross. They raised €540.
  • David Molloy and Brendan Butcher represented the College at the Le Chéile Conference. Many thanks Ms Mazzucato of the teaching staff who assisted in the student programme.
  • Brother George and Brother John visited the College recently and provided information about the De La Salle mission.
  • Congratulations to Colm Butcher and Daniel Plummer of 6th Year who recently received their Silver Gaisce Awards.
  • The Subjects Night for Transition Year student and their parents will be held on Thursday 21st March 2013 at 7pm in the College.
  • The TY/5th Year trip to Rome will take place over the Easter Holidays.

The College will close for Easter on Friday 22nd March and will re-open for the Summer Term on Monday 8th April 2013.

Lorcan Balfe,

Principal.
