Transition Year RCSI Mini Medical & Mini Health Sciences Week Feb 22-26
This week a lucky number of our Transition Year Students were chosen to take part in the exciting interactive programme with the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI).
This programme is open to any student with an interest in the medical profession and encompassed elements of the three schools:
- Medicine
- Pharmacy
- Physiotherapy.
The programme is specifically designed to encourage post-primary students to consider careers in medicine. Held virtually over the course of one week, it consisted of interactive workshops where attendees got to experience what it is like to train and work as a doctor.
It is so important to get experience in something first before deciding if it's really what you want to do. It is hoped that students taking part might develop or discover a passion for a particular field of medicine during the programme.
All sections of the programme were carried out by leading professionals in their respective areas with a wide variety of topics covered, including:
- General practice
- Heart surgery
- Pathology
- Paediatrics
- Forensic medicine
- Transplants
- Obstetrics
- Gynaecology
We will follow up soon with an article from one of our students taking part.
