De La Salle College School Rules

​

The aim of De La Salle College is to educate each student to achieve their full potential. Our school rules help us create a safe, positive learning environment for students and teachers and must be respected at all times. The rules apply when students are on the school premises, engaged in on-line teaching and learning activities,  when in school uniform, while on school tours/trips/outings, when engaged in extracurricular activities or attending functions organised by the college. 

All students and parents/guardians must sign these rules at the beginning of each academic year. It is essential that parents/guardians are contactable at all times, particularly in cases of emergency or serious breaches of the code of behaviour. The following list of rules is not exhaustive.  In the final analysis, all sanctions and breaches of the rules are at the discretion of the Principal.

  1. I will wear the full school uniform on my way to and from school and throughout the school day. I will not deface or alter the school uniform. (Please note that parents may be contacted immediately to sort non-compliance with this rule. Students may be sent home or not permitted into class unless in full uniform. Non-uniform items may be confiscated. Parents/ guardians can collect from Year Heads) 

  2. I will have a neat & tidy appearance. Items of jewellery MUST be removed for PE & all sporting activities including after school sports and during practical classes where there may be health & safety issues). The school accepts no responsibility for lost/stolen / damaged jewellery that students choose to take or wear into school.

  3. I will attend school and be on time for all of my classes/online classes. (Parents must  inform the school of their son’s/daughter’s absences via the school app. )

  4. I will have teacher permission before leaving class.  I will not leave the school without obtaining Tutor/Year Head and Parent/Guardian permission and I must sign out at Reception. Parents/guardians must give the school prior notice of the request to leave the school via the school app).

  5. I will have all required materials for class and will have my school journal in class at all times.

  6. I will follow my teacher’s directions promptly, respectfully and without argument. I will listen to the teacher and allow one person to speak at a time in class. I acknowledge that all students have a right to an education and all teachers have a right to teach free from disruption. 

  7. I will participate in classes/online classes to the best of my ability.

  8. I will complete my homework neatly, on time and to the best of my ability.

  9. I will follow all the Health and Safety and Child Protection protocols in the school and during any school related activity. 

  10. I will act respectfully, safely and responsibly at all times. I will not engage in fighting or any violent or aggressive behaviour which intimidates or compromises the health and safety of other students or staff.  Breaches of this rule may lead to a Garda investigation and/or expulsion by the Board of Management.

  11. I will support all Green School initiatives and help to keep the classrooms and school environment clean and tidy. I will show care at all times for property, buildings, furniture, books and all equipment of the school, staff and fellow students. Any theft, destruction or vandalism of property of the school, staff or students is not acceptable and may incur serious sanctions. I accept that I may have to clean, repair or pay for any damage I cause to school property.

  12. I understand that chewing gum is forbidden on the school premises. Food and beverages may only be consumed in the designated eating areas.

  13. I will abide by the school policies on Internet Usage & Mobile Phone Use. Mobile phones and other electronic devices belonging to students must be turned off and locked into a Yondr Pouch while on the school premises and in class at all times. I understand that a breach of this rule will result in the confiscation of the device(s). On a first offence, devices will be returned to the student the following school day.  If there are subsequent breaches of this rule devices will only be returned to parents/ guardians at a time agreed by Management.  Students may not be permitted to return to classes if they refuse to hand over their device. Parents/guardians may be contacted immediately to sort non-compliance with this rule.

  14. I understand that no inappropriate photographs or digital recordings may be made, shared or posted on social media. Students may not take or use photographs or recordings of other students, staff and members of their families without permission. Students may not follow/like/post/comment on social media pages that defame/disrespect students/ staff and their families or bring the school into disrepute. Students may not disrupt online teaching and learning. Incidents where students use a mobile phone/digital device to disrupt/defame/harass/bully/mock others, will be investigated under the Anti-Bullying Policy of the school. It should be noted that it is a criminal offence to use a mobile phone/digital device to menace, harass or offend another person and may lead to a Garda investigation and/or expulsion by the Board of Management.

  15.  I will not engage in an mysoginistic or misandristic behaviour.  I will abide by the school Anti Bullying Policy and will not be a bystander in bullying behaviour of physical, verbal, emotional, sexual, racial or cyber-bullying. 

  16. I will abide by the school policy on Substance Use Prevention. I acknowledge that Smoking (including vape cigarettes) or the possession/consumption/distribution of any illegal substances anywhere in the school buildings, school grounds, on school outings /trips/tours or in school uniform is forbidden.  In keeping with the Smoking in the Workplace Act the school reserves the right to impose monetary or other sanctions if this rule is breached. 

  17. I will not be in possession of illegal substances, pornographic materials and/or dangerous weapons that may constitute a threat to Child Protection and/or the Health & Safety of a person.  Possession /consumption/or circulation of illegal substances, pornographic materials and/or dangerous weapons may constitute a serious offence and may lead to a Garda investigation and/or expulsion by the Board of Management.

18. I will respect the right of the school authorities to open and inspect lockers at any time and understand that this is a condition of the         Locker Rental Scheme.

19. In the interest of Health & Safety I will not cycle my bicycle/e-bycycle or scooter/e-scooter* the school grounds and I will not park my        car on school grounds. I will take personal responsibility to ensure that my scooter is locked securely when on the school premises. 

      (*Students under the age of 16 by law are not permitted to use e-scooters, and therefore must not bring e-scooters onto the school          grounds)

20. I will not bring the name of De La Salle College into disrepute, inside or outside of school time. I acknowledge that I do have the right        to use the school’s name in the organizing of any event without prior permission from the Board of Management.
