De La Salle College Wins Media and Multicultural Award

De La Salle College was nominated by 6th Year Student Boni Odoemene for a Multicultural Award. The awards are presented annually to individual and organisations who work to celebrate multiculturalism and strive to integrate people from diverse backgrounds into Irish society.


De La Salle College Churchtown won the award for the Public Sector. The Awards are an initiative with Dublin City Council's One City One People Campaign and are supported by An Post, Dublin City Council Office for Integration, MK Design Studio and Metro Eireann. At the presentation of the award in the GPO, the President of St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dr Daire Keogh referred to the 24 nationalities that are represented among the student body in the College and the numerous initiatives to promote integration. He praised the College for the care and concern it gives to all students irrespective or race, creed or colour. He noted that the Captain of the Senior Cup Team Justas Mereckas is from Lithuania. The College was represented on the night by the Principal Lorcan Balfe and the Deputy Principal, Ms Betty O'Connell. Others winners on the night included the Goethe Institute, and Ms Noelene Blackwell, Director of the Free Legal Advice Centres.
